These stands are about as simple as you can get and still look quite good. The stands built to hold the KSB1.1 monitors at my parents place are simply 4 square chunks of 3/4" MDF. The top plate is 8"x8" and rounded over on one side. The bottom plate is 10"x10" and rounded over on one side. Then there are two middle pieces each 4"x29.5" and beveled on both sides of the long edge. Then with the rounded sides up on both top and bottom plates the two long pieces were evenly spaced, centered and angled slightly, then glued and nailed in place. Paint black and done. The stands for my S38 mains are a little more substantial (and the design is stolen from another DIY job that I saw, but I don't remember where now, if you recognize the design give me a shout and I'll give you credit if I remember getting the idea from your pictures). The base is 18"x12" (rounded on top edge) and the top plate is 16"x10" (rounded on bottom edge). The middle part is a box that is made out of four 5"x27" pieces of MDF with the edges sanded slightly round. The top plate also had a hole drilled in the center so the box could be filled with sand. The box was centered and aligned 45 degrees off square with the top and bottom plate (ie looks like a equilateral diamond), then glued and nailed in place. Paint black and done.
Total cost for the two sets was about $45CDN or under $30USD.
